7 Steps to Achievable Goals

How many times have you heard that being successful is all down to setting goals? It may come as no surprise to you to learn there is a lot more to success than just setting your goals.

Most of us, at some time, have been told that an essential part, if not the major part, of being successful is setting goals. If that were true many more of us would be successful millionaires, actors, parents…etc. In this article I show you why many people fail to achieve their goals and how to be successful whatever you want or need.

1) What is a goal?

A goal is a target achievable in measurable attainable steps. It is more than just a desire or a need and has an existence of its own. A desire or a wish is less tangible and often just fleeting. Who doesn’t desire or wish to win the lottery with all its millions in prize money. Very few would not but, despite the widespread desire, it is not a goal. A goal is a desire, wish or need achievable by actions you can take. It is more than a mere wish or desire.

2) How to set a goal?

Setting a goal is a process which starts with an achievable wish, need or desire. First you must decide on the following

What do you want?

Where do you want to be?

Your status, career or qualifications?

A goal can relate to any desire, wish or need achievable by actions you can take.

You then break down the goal into small individual steps or actions. Achievable goals are goals where you can influence their realization and measure your progress towards them. Achieving long term life changing goals is a process of achieving, step by step, short and medium term actions.

3) What actions are required?

Goals require action on your part. You first need to decide what action is required to achieve the goal. Your first action is always to always write your goals down. Putting pen to paper, and this is one time when a real pen and paper are required, gives your goals an existence of their own.

Writing a plan is an essential step in achieving your goals – without it you will, over time, amend the long term goal to fit your reality. You will eventually reduce the goal to a wish, and wishes only come true by chance.

4) Analyse the results

You then need to analyse, and work out in detail, how you are going to accomplish each individual goal. This means writing a detailed plan of what tangible actions are required to achieve each individual goal.

These actions then become smaller shorter term goals leading to major longer term goals.

5) What steps do I need to take today?

Every day ask yourself “What steps do I need to take today?” By now it should be all planned in advance so check your plan and make sure you take each step every day. If you discover additional steps are needed add them to the plan.

6) Review your achievements every week and month

Every week review your progress for the week. Check what you’ve done and what you may have missed. Adjust your plan for the next week or month.

Your plan should always take into account what you will do today, tomorrow, this week, next week before the end of the month, in the next 3 months, 6 months…? Always write down your results.

7) What if things go wrong?

If goals were easy to achieve everyone would be successful millionaires. Goals are difficult because they move you outside your comfort zone to do things differently. To be successful you have to face your own fear of failure and take risks. There will be setbacks, expect them, they are part of the process.

If you are not prepared to take action towards your goals then you are wasting your time. True success comes from the daily actions we all take. Using goals ensures that all the actions you take are moving you in the direction you wish to go. Daily or weekly reviews keep you on track and applying these simple tips will ensure you achieve your goals.

Personal Change in Self-Esteem Development

All human beings at one point in their life feel sad, alone and down in the dumps.

Because of the first sin, we all have to feel grief to make way for the feeling of happiness. Everyday all of us face challenges. It can be truly simple like the problem of your dog peeing in the couch, or may be serious like your brother facing a case for driving with the influence of alcohol. Whatever the case, problems still cause the feeling of sadness. Since there is no way you can get rid of life problems, I have put into words ways to make problems less of a burden.

You Are Not Alone

It will not help in anyway to be asking God questions such as “why does life have to be like this?” or “why do all people seem to be really happy while it seems that all problems have landed on my shoulder?” Questions like this will lead you to think that only you face problems. That, my friend, is not at all true. As I have said, each person in this world holds a problem of his own. Even kid’s face problems like how they could clean all the mess they have made or how they could convince their parent to buy them a pet. It is always nice to know that you are not the only person in the world with problems.  Problems do not seem to follow only you. It goes the same with all persons. Thinking about people who face even bigger, more complicated problems will also help. It helps to think that, if compared to other people, you problems seem to shrink into an ant size one.

Optimism is the key

Problems must be analyzed effectively, rather than viewed as a headache waiting to happen.  It will only make you feel as if there is nothing else it will offer you other than suffering, bad mood, and pains. Make personal transformations while looking at the brighter side of the problem. Think of the problem as an opportunity for you to grow.  This way, they would not seem as if they are burdens but as blessings simply disguised as problems. It is a blessing in some ways. Take it as a challenge. Look forward to how it will help you in the future. Look at how much lessons it will be teaching you. Anticipate the day when you have finally reached the tip of the problem and finally have solved it. Keeping a positive mind will offer you support.  It will be a stepping-stone into a better happier life with lighter problems, which are not actually problems but blessings.

Slow it down

Do not expect things do go as you planned it to because most of the time it would not. Do not think that problems can immediately be fixed because most of the time they cannot. It takes time. One needs to focus and stay determined to get ahead.  Slow things down and take them gradually. Rushing things will only give you unsatisfying results and the feeling that you have worked for 5 days straight. Slowly look at the situation and try to fix it. Try to determine what went wrong and what needs to be changed or done. From there, work it out. Do what you think is right. If things do not go as you wish, deal with it. Do not back out, you have gone this far. Just remember that after all these, a feeling of happiness and satisfaction will reign in you.

All of us have the power to make changes in the way we think, feel, or conduct our self. We can consider our level of development, knowledge, experiences, and the proceedings from the precedent years. We must practice natural techniques, which can help us to stay focused. Once preparation starts, we must weigh the difference amid unconstructive and positive. Rumination is the processes of thinking deeply on a subject. This course of action moves one through the process of discovery and developing original ideas.

Human expansion experts often have the same opinion that if one focuses on developing hale and hearty self-esteem and virtuous quantity of self-belief that entity can prevail over the unhelpful acts, feelings, behaviors, and so forth. A measure of the solution involves the interaction with encouraging influences. These influences will help you find a way to perceive things differently and often will activate your spirits with a few friendly words that come from well-rounded knowledge, contented moods, pleasant appearance, trustworthiness, and so forth.

How one contributes to information in some measure influence what mind-set we develop. Being around negative people all the time will only hold you back from professional growth. When you step into this growth arena, you want to arm yourself with the best breastplate that life can provide. This will ensure that you meet the expectations all the way through this growth phase. You must remove any negativity in your life to advance toward professional growth. Below is a list of negative that you can work on: Be sure to take action as soon as possible so that you become the pro that you long to be.

  • Racism – the variants of racism only lead you to intolerance and bigotry. Do not be listed in this category, otherwise, you will not succeed in the business world.
  • Hate – if you are filled with hate, revulsions, you are someone disgusting to others. Abandon hate and people will like you.
  • Dishonest – if you are dishonest, people will not trust you. Mendacious people often commit fraud or other crimes, simply because they set themselves up for the fall.
  • Disloyal – disloyal people are unfaithful, false, or fake, treacherous, and untrustworthy. Do not be a fictional character in someone’s book rather develop faithful traits.
  • Doubt – When you have doubts, you will often hesitate when it is your turn to make a decision. If you are indecisive, people will consider you mistrusting, will feel suspicious of you, skeptic to listen, reserved, and so on. Do not be a smidgen. Rather become a lifelong learner, and adjust your way of thinking by finding the facts.

There are many other negative thinking habits you should consider. You should also consider your behaviors and habits. If you have unconstructive habits or behaviors, they often lead you straight down the road to damnation. You want to avoid hitting this road, since no benefits are offered. The only true outcome is self-defeat, self-destruction, and self-annihilation. Understand that you can extract from negative to produce positive. By develop a winning sense of humor you will start to see things in many ways, rather in a negative way. Learn to laugh and be cheerful. Everyone enjoys a person full of life. Imagine yourself sitting in a big, overstuffed leather office chair with a big fat expensive cigar in your hand. Often the relaxed people make it to the higher office grounds. You can change in many ways, but try to keep it on a real note and on a constructive level so that you can improve your overall quality of life. Dismiss those negative thought.

Finally, you will need to get on your path or go in the direction of your goals and stay on track. You may need to set up a Plan A and a Plan B, because there are times where you will need to stray from the original plan and work with another.

Does a Law on Human Attraction Exist?

“Opposites attract” is a law of attraction, at least where electromagnetism is concerned. But are there laws about attraction between two people? “In a world that is full of strangers” as a line in a famous song of the 1980’s goes, is there a clear set of rules that allows two people to fall for each other?

Is attraction a matter of chemistry?

Maybe. According to scientists, the attraction between animals of the opposite sex is all about chemicals called pheromones. The effect of pheromones in behavior of insects is the most studied to date. It has been observed, at least in some experiments, that pheromones are responsible for communication among same species and colony of ants. The horrible odors released by skunks to ward off enemies is said to be a kind of pheromone. Some species of apes rub pheromone-containing urine on the feet of potential mates to attract them. Some scientists believe that animals (usually the females) such as insects and mammals send out these chemical signals to tell the male of their species that their genes are different from theirs. This gene diversity is important in producing offspring with better chances of survival. The perfume industry has capitalized on pheromones as a means to increase one’s sexual attractiveness to the opposite sex. Animals such as the whale and the musk deer were hunted down for these chemicals.

Lately, scientists are looking into the existence of human pheromones and its role in mate selection. There are many conflicting views in the realm of biology, chemistry, genetics, and psychology.  Most scientists would assert that these do not exist, or if they do, do not play a role in sexual attraction between a man and a woman.  But new researches such as that conducted by Swiss researchers from the University of Bern led by Klaus Wedekind are slowly making these scientists rethink their stand. Their experiment involved women sniffing the cotton shirts of different men during their ovulation period.  It was found out that women prefer the smell of men’s shirts that were genetically different, but also shared similarities with the women’s genes. This, like in the case of insects and other mammals, was to ensure better and healthier characteristics for their future children. But researchers also cautioned that preference for a male odor is affected by the women’s ovulation period, the food that men eat, perfumes and other scented body products, and the use of contraceptive pills.

Does personality figure in sexual attraction?

Yes, but so does your perception of a potential mate’s personality. According to a research conducted by Klohnen, E.C., & S. Luo in 2003 on interpersonal attraction and personality, a person’s sense of self-security and at least the person’s perception of his/her partner were found to be strong determinants of attraction in hypothetical situations. What does this tell us? We prefer a certain personality type, which attracts you to a person. But aside from the actual personality of the person, which can only be verified through close interaction through time, it is your perception of your potential partner that attracts you to him/her, whether the person of your affection truly has that kind of personality or not. This could probably account for a statement commonly heard from men and women on their failed relationships: “I thought he/she was this kind of person.”

So how does attraction figure in relationships?

You have probably heard that attraction is a prelude, or a factor towards a relationship. Most probably, at least in the beginning; but attraction alone cannot make a relationship work. It is that attraction that makes you notice a person from the opposite sex, but once you get to know the person more, attraction is just one consideration. Shared values, dreams, and passions become more significant in long-term relationships.

So should I stop trying to become attractive?

More than trying to become physically attractive, work on all aspects of your health: physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. Physical attraction is still a precursor. Remember, biology predisposes us to choose the partner with the healthiest genes. Where your emotions are concerned, just ask this to yourself: would you want to spend time with a person who feels insecure about him/herself? Probably not! There is wisdom in knowing yourself: who you are, your beliefs, values, and dreams. And do not pretend to be someone you are not. Fooling another person by making him/her think that you share the same values and beliefs is only going to cause you both disappointments. When you are healthy in all aspects, attractiveness becomes a consequence and not an end. As mentioned in the Klohnen and Luo’s research, a person’s sense of self-security matters, perhaps even beyond attraction. But remember: do these things for yourself and not for other people. Only then can you truly harness your attractiveness as a person.

Behaviors and Self Determination

Some people struggle with developing skills because of particular behaviors developed from influences over the years. When they struggle with pre-structured behaviors or genetically related behaviors it often makes it a harder struggle to build self-determination. Usually with some help, a good mentor, counselor, etc., the person can develop skills. It may take longer, but it is worth the wait.

A person’s behavior towards a situation could also affect the way others see them. Their attitude towards others could also affect their behavior as well. Ones attitude needs to be adjusted for one to develop and change their self-determination.  A person could be assessed in any situation so as to understand what they are going through for one to understand them in any way. May be a sort of group therapy may also help so as the teacher can pick up on any feelings you may have when discussing matters. Some people may feel better if they converse about things first to others and listen to others and there issues or problems they may have or problems they seem to face in everyday life. In a child it could be something that has happened to them emotionally or mentally. No one knows unless these issues are raised. If a child has a problem at home maybe the child feels better telling a complete stranger i.e. Counselor so as they can understand from the way they may see things rather than talk to a relative. There may be a lot the person may want to say and may be a bit overwhelmed when talking to someone they know. They may have a lot to say and feel nervous in front of someone. For example you may want to feel less anxious or tired and therefore a session in counseling may be of help to you in some way or another. Counseling may also help in other ways if need be.

Considering the cognitive approach, motivation sometimes crosses over the lines of theory. For instance, implicit motives can set in motion or cause someone unknowingly to react to something when the person is unaware of his or her intentions. By training the mind to learn while focusing on the objective, you can help one to reform unconstructive behaviors. Sometimes councelors will use priming methods to measure the patients contained memory. The process involves scrambling letters. Once the letters are jumbled the entity is asked to choose some words from the letters. The letters in the first instance should relate to success while in the second instance it should relate to relationship.

During these tests patients that chose the success often showed higher degrees of motivation than those that were confined to relationships. Each party during these tests is often prepared with success-related terms or words. You might try the priming methods at home to see if your child can progress and build his or her motivation.

Aside from the priming method, you have other methods to consider to help your child develop motivation and self-determination. It is a proven fact that we often develop behaviors whether consciously or not, and in time unconscious influences that enforced the behaviors upon us will display themselves in our behavior. We must constantly stay on guard to defend our human rights and to make sure that others are not influencing our behaviors.

Another good strategy that you can use is the pro and con measurement test. This test will help your child see the benefits of balance, good skills, motivation, etc, and see the consequences of the cons. It is an effective therapeutic strategy that works.

Effective Conscious and Self Mastery

Sometimes you have to make positive adjustments to retrain your mind so that you can make room for self-mastery development.

Sometimes you have to take control of your life by probing into your own mind and to find the answers that help you develop self-mastery skills.

With low self-development skills, we tend to fail in thriving on stress that can be harmful to our performance and success in life. Sometimes you have to rethink your thinking in order to reprogram your mind to think positive. When you can think positive, it helps you to find ways to reform your thinking and take control of your life.

Use meditation in focusing to start digging and cleaning up the subliminal mind thoughts.  Write each one down as you dig so you can work on the changes that need to be made for the future.  Don’t let these thoughts control your digging, to stress you even more; stay focused until you reach the bottom.

By digging with a focused mind, making changes will be easier.  When you write them down it is bring the negative thoughts out to start the process of reprogramming.  Once you’ve dug down and found them write down goals with the changes you need in turning them to positive gold thoughts.

Go over and reread you new thoughts often to help keep you mind thinking positive.  Every time something negative slips in while making your changes stop and focus to rethink positive.  By reminding yourself often of the goals you’ve decided to reach, you’ll be able to reprogram your mind and brain to act in a positive way.

Reprogramming yourself to think positive will help you to strengthen the effective conscious and self-development to give you success.  When we relieve stress by focusing on each one separately with goals we grow stronger in making better decisions with a winning attitude.

Using meditation skills such as focusing to relax on each decision will give you power with new development skills.  As you begin to notice things are, looking up in your world you’ll have more confidence in yourself.

Meditation is similar to Yoga that will help you relax for more energy and control of the way you live and perform.  Yoga will teach you to breathe slow and deep for relaxing when making difficult decision with stress.  As you relax, you’ll find focusing is easier and more successful in the end.

Don’t expect a miracle overnight when practicing meditation for growing in effective conscious and self-mastery skills. You need to give you time to grow and practice the skills each day to make the changes that you need to take control of your life.

You probably won’t notice any changes in your performance right way.  Other people will notice and like the new person in you before you will.  As you learn to focus and relax, your communication skills will increase letting you carry on conservation with skill and confidence.  Don’t be afraid to say how you feel by giving your opinions with ease.

Your vocabulary will increase letting you say new things in a way that is interesting for others to listen to.  When we learn to relax and focus, we can express ourselves in a completely different way that others will listen to. When you build self-mastery skills, you will make new friends that will feel empowered by your changes. They will likely follow you to the road of success.

When you build strength, it makes it easier to take control of your mind by using self-mastery skills. It drives you to a better future.

4 Tips Toward Making Resolutions That Matter!

Turning the calendar over is an excuse to make personal resolutions for the coming year. It is also a way to bring about certain frustration for you if the goals that you set for yourself are unreachable, unattainable, or just something you have no interest in doing. Making resolutions can be done at any time of the year, but if you have been thinking about several new ones for the coming year, here are four tips to help you not only make resolutions, but to keep them.

1. I Resolve To… Okay, you have made your resolutions. Now, step back and take a look at each one. Are they resolutions you wanted to make or resolutions others have told you to make? Make certain that each resolution is something you definitely want to keep, not a half hearted attempt at reaching a goal that you really aren’t interested in reaching. If your resolution needs to be modified, do it at once.

2. My Goals Are… Are your resolutions reasonable or are they reaching well beyond what can normally be expected? Let’s say your goal is to lose 70 pounds in the coming year. While the weight loss resolution is admirable, do you have the time to exercise regularly? Change your eating habits? Change your lifestyle? Is the 70 pound weight loss goal too much, too soon? Would it be better for you to stretch the amount you want to lose beyond one calendar year? Consider your health: both physical and mental when evaluating your goals. Keep in mind how your resolution may impact friends and family members…you may be a “bear” to live with over the next twelve months!

3. I Have Fallen and I Cannot Get Up! Do you quit at the first sign of failure? If you splurge on food, do you consider your diet and resolution to be over? If so, why? Simply start again and continue. The road to any goal is paved with pitfalls and you are bound to backslide from time to time. Best advice: Find an accountability partner who knows [and understands] your resolution and can encourage you to keep it.

4. Reward Yourself. At the end of the year, reward yourself based on how well you kept your resolution. If you hit your weight loss goals, consider going on a cruise — don’t overeat! — As a reward for good behavior. If you miss your goals, keep the cruise idea open for when you do meet your goals. In other words, some resolutions are ongoing and shouldn’t be restricted by a 365 day calendar.

Remember this: resolutions are for your benefit, not your detriment. Your attitude toward a particular resolution will help you determine whether you should make that particular resolution or not. Any resolution made which doesn’t have your enthusiastic backing will certainly become a hindrance come February or March and forgotten altogether by April. Make resolutions that matter and be the better for it!

Discovering Fears in Self Mastery

Discover your fears and doubts. Sometimes we have fears and doubts in our mind that we don’t realize are there. These fears and doubts will hinder people each time from developing self-mastery skills that enable them to take control of their life.

The common human tendency is to suppress fears or stressful situations rather than to face them head on. Many of the fears that develop in our mind often occur in our childhood, yet most people find it hard to understand this because they believe that the problems arise from current situations.

The subliminal mind stores negative things such as fear or grief sending biofeedback messages through the subconscious mind when we least expect it. Sometimes fearful things crop up in the mind and often people do not know where it comes from unless they have self-mastery skills developed to a large extent. The flash back could be reminding you of the fear as a child because you were never able to let it out.

Learn to practice by putting your body and mind in balance by discovering your loss of memory as a child to relieve this stress. Start out by exploring your mind to find what is stored by blocking it out at one time.
